At Fleet Feet Sports, we are obsessed with FIT. We want to make sure that you are properly fit from the ground up. We help you choose a shoe based on your biomechanics, foot shape, foot volume and from feedback you've shared with us on what fits right, feels good and has worked for you in the past. Our FIT system does not include any fancy electronics or scanning machines - just passionate staff with lots of training on foot and lower leg biomechanics. Our process includes:
1) Assessing Your Needs: We want to know what you are looking for, the type of activity you'll be using the shoes for, what hurts, what doesn't, and what type of shoes have felt comfortable in the past. All this information helps us assess what would work best for you so that you are the most comfortable.
2) Measuring Arch Elongation: Measuring your foot in an weighted and unweighted position is an important part of evalauating your arch elongation. Arch elongation is one indication of excess pronation; we are looking to see how your bones work together from an unweighted to a weighted position so we can determine which shoe styles would work best for your foot function.
3) Evaluating Gait: By watching you walk barefoot we are able to see how the foot operates during motion. This gives us some insight into how the bone structure of the foot works and what type of shoe would be best to properly support the foot.
4) Discuss proper fitting socks and inserts: Fitted socks and rigid inserts play a critical role in making the shoe fit properly. By choosing a shoe alone you've achieved about 75% of an optimal fit. We recommend fitted polyester/nylon socks to reduce excess movement inside the shoe and rigid inserts to help stabilize the foot inside the shoe.
5) Try it out! Walking around a store is not a great indication of how a shoe is going to perform. We highly encourage you to try out the shoes on our treadmill or outside on the sidewalk, so you can experience the shoe and get a better feel for how the shoes will perform when you are really using them.
6) Explore the store: Taking care of your feet is part of the equation, but don't forget about the rest of you! We carry a wide selection of technical apparel and sports bras so that you are comfortable during any activity. If you are participating in a walking, running, or gym program- getting comfortable from the ankles up will affect how you feel! And we are here to help you navigate the options.
7) We want your feedback! If something hasn't worked for you we want to know about it. The worst thing that can happen for us and you is that you make a purchase you are not pleased with. Something not right? Please let us know. We are driven to help you find the right fit, and even more passionate about making sure you are uber-happy with your purchase.
